What's the difference between Scan to BIM and Revit Modelling?

Scan to BIM describes the whole pipeline, from the site scan through to a finished, coordinated model. Revit Modelling is the specific modelling deliverable on that pipeline.

What's the difference between Scan to BIM and Point Cloud Processing?

Point Cloud Processing delivers the registered, cleaned and georeferenced point cloud itself, for your own team to model from. Scan to BIM takes that further, in-house, all the way to a finished, coordinated model.

Do you offer clash detection?

Yes, as part of a Scan to BIM project we can check the model against proposed design for dimensional clashes.

What LOD is included as standard?

LOD 100 to LOD 400 depending on your requirements, including LOD 400 where the model is intended for Facilities Management — agreed at the quotation stage.

Can this be combined with a measured building survey in the same visit?

Yes — where both CAD drawings and a BIM model are needed, we can capture the data once and produce both deliverables from the same site visit.

WHAT IS SCAN TO BIM?

IScan to BIM is the full process of turning a laser scan into a coordinated Building Information Model — from capturing the point cloud on site through to a finished, checked model ready for design coordination.

AKN delivers the whole pipeline from a single team: scanning, point cloud processing, and model authoring in Revit or ArchiCAD — avoiding the data-quality loss that can happen when scanning and modelling are handled by separate suppliers.

WHEN IS SCAN TO BIM USED?

✅ Refurbishment, extension or fit-out projects needing a full existing-condition BIM model, not just CAD drawings

✅ Projects requiring clash detection between existing structure and proposed design

✅ Facilities management handover models, including AIR/COBie asset data where required
